Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre

Location in Trongate 103

First floor

Sharmanka (Russian for hurdy gurdy) is a theatre of kinetic sculptures. Founded in St. Petersburg (Russia) in 1989. It has been based in Glasgow since 1996.

Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre is an artistic collective of sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky, theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya and lighting / sound designer Sergey Jakovsky.

The sculptures are animated in regular performances, and these are complemented by family workshops and an education programme that offer a more hands on experience.

Sharmanka has developed an international audience through tours and exhibitions abroad, and has gained a reputation in Glasgow as one of the city's hidden treasures. The move to Trongate 103 offers Sharmanka a higher public profile and enables the public to have a better access to this unique and magical experience
