Glasgow Independent Studio and Project Room
First floor: Glasgow Project Room gallery
Fourth floor: Artist Studios
Glasgow Independent Studio is an artist-led organisation, providing studio space for visual artists. Established in 1995, the membership of the organisation encompasses a wide variety of arts practices.
The organisation has two parts, the publicly accessible Glasgow Project Room gallery and the private studio complex.
The Glasgow Project Room is a vital part of the organisation, and promotes an innovative and diverse programme of exhibitions and events by local, national and international artists. The programme of work reflects current diversity in visual arts practice in its widest sense and so compliments the artistic programmes of other galleries housed in Trongate 103.
The studio complex housed on the fourth floor of Trongate 103, provides 36 secure and high quality artist's studios. Being a membership-led organisation, the studios promote an ethos of mutual support. The individual studio spaces, designed to bring in as much light as possible, are complemented by communal spaces that encourage networking.
The move to Trongate 103 dramtically increased the public profile of Glasgow Project Room and transformed the working spaces of the studios. Being housed in a building shared by other creative organisations also opened up new artistic connections, sharing of resources and exchanges between different art forms.
