Following on from 2011's successful exhibition 'Academicians', Glasgow Print Studio is pleased to present 'Academicians II' featuring once again the work of four well respected Royal and Royal Scottish Academicians.
Norman Ackroyd RA has developed a distinctive and highly skilled use of aquatint, giving his atmospheric etchings a highly individual quality. His subjects are usually the wilder landscapes of mountains and shore and are reminders that the present has emerged from a harsher past.
Chris Orr RA is one of Britain’s foremost artist-printmakers, renowned for his technical mastery, joyfully anarchic subject matter and thought provoking content.
Philip Reeves RSA's printmaking displays a modern expressive abstraction, which is confidently conceived by experimentation with the process of intaglio printmaking. As well as experimenting with the possibilities of the etching plate, Reeves frequently employs found objects to use as the printing plate.
Contemporary Renaissance man, John Byrne RSA has been working with Glasgow Print Studio since the 1970’s creating witty yet astute etchings, monoprints and lithographs. Known for television screenplays and plays, 'Tutti Fruitti' (BBC, 1987) and 'The Slab Boys' (1978), as much as for his painting and print, Byrne is well known for his diverse approach and unique style.
