A centre for the arts and creativity
Open in September 2009, Trongate 103 will be a major visual arts resource for the city of Glasgow. The building, based in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City, will house galleries, workshops, artists studios and production spaces supporting the creation of art in a wide variety of media including printmaking, photography, digital media, film, video, kinetic sculpture, painting and ceramics. The project is being delivered in a partnership between Glasgow City Council and eight Merchant City based visual arts organisations – Glasgow Print Studio, Project Ability, Street Level Photoworks, Transmission Gallery, Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre, Glasgow Media Access Centre, Glasgow Independent Studios and The Russian Cultural Centre.
TRONGATE 103 has been designed by award winning architects Elder and Cannon, whose design supports the needs of the arts organisations and their audiences, incorporating two floors of exhibition spaces, and a further four floors of purpose designed production spaces. Construction work began in May 2007, and the building is due to open to the public in September 2009.
